Sharing the Love of Yeshua in Native America
March 10

Pow-Wow Time

Pow-wow Time

Pow-wow season is in full swing here in the southwest, we are very busy taking part in local pow-wows and Native gatherings. This past weekend we attended the annual Kinlani BIA dorms senior pow-wow. It was a great time connecting with friends and relatives after a cold snowy winter. Our ministry sponsored the Tiny-Tot dancers at all three sessions of this pow-wow. We started supporting the Tiny-Tots about four years ago as a point of reconciliation for the over 100 years of mistreatment of Native children at “church run” BIA Indian boarding schools. We are really seeing God move in building relationships and bringing healing through our work.

Through our building trust and relationships we have many openings to pray for people, share our faith, hope and encouragement with many people that would not come to a church. At the pow-wow people I do not even know will take me aside and ask me to pray for them or their families, one family asked that we pray for their daughter, she is headed to Iraq, the family blessed me with star quilt and asked if we would pray for protection. I also found out that a Navajo family we helped this week were able to find permanent affordable housing, Praise our God!! Please keep us in your prayers over the next few months, we will be traveling to many native gathering and also speaking in some churches across Arizona.

Bless you all, Pastor Bill Gowey Reztoration Ministries

Sharing the Love of Yeshua in Native America

Reztoration Ministries is located in Flagstaff Arizona serving the Hopi , Navajo and other Native peoples who live in and around Northern Arizona and all across Indian Country.

Greetings my Relations, I hope and pray all is well with you.

Our heavenly Father said that we have a ministry of reconciliation (2 Cor 5:18). One area our Creator has opened doors for us and Reztoration Ministries to be ministers of reconciliation is, with Indian boarding schools and with people who have been affected by the abuse and mistreatment that so many Native youth went through. Many of the social and spiritual problems we see on reservations and in Native peoples is the direct result of the boarding school experiance. We can not undue the past but at the same time we can not act like it never happened. Many people think that it was over 100 years ago so just get over it. But as someone who is directly involved with people who went to these schools or had mothers, fathers, grandmothers or grandfathers who attend these schools and suffer abuse, this is not just an issue of the past but one that has deep hurts that affect many today. I want to share a video with you that I came across today, this one really hit me hard because it is not just some Indian that won't get over it, this video is of a very respected elder who I know a my friend, telling his own personal boarding school story. This elder has helped and encouraged me, he has come and danced at our pow-wow and helped us and many others. Please take a few minutes and listen to Andrew Windyboy tell his story. Then pray for him and all the others who have the same story. Also keep us and our ministry in your prayers as we work  to heal past hurts, work to restore hope, honor, dignity and respect to Native people. Nobody should be ashamed of who our heavenly Father made us to be, the bible says that we were all made in His image.

As we walk out our faith in the pow-wow circle, in Native communities and Indian Boarding schools across the country pray that we have wisdom to share God's grace and healing as we work for reconciliation and try to be SALT & LIGHT.

Below I will share photos of Andrew Windyboy, his son's and other Grass -Dancers at our first annual 2006 The Peoples Pow-Wow, an event that we started and sponsor to be a blessing and help bring healing and reconciliation to our local Native community and members of other tribes from across Indian Country. Also pray about your church, ministry or family sponsoring an age group at our Peoples Pow-Wow May 31st 2008, contact me for more info.

Blessings,
